New Avalon Clearpath-Extra Barrier

Avalon Clearpath-Extra Barrier available at Ernco-Traffic

A new pedestrian barrier design, the Avalon Clearpath-Extra Barrier, from Oxford Plastic, is now available from Ireland distributor Ernco-Traffic (part of the Ernco Group). The Avalon barrier with its innovative Clearpath feet has now been replaced with the new and improved Avalon Clearpath-Extra Barrier.

The Avalon barriers, along with the full Oxford Plastics site and traffic management range is distributed by Ernco-Traffic throughout both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland from the company manufacturing and distribution centre in Derrylin, County Fermanagh.

Oxford Plastics were the first manufacturer to offer the Clearpath anti-trip feature on their pedestrian barriers, with the foot of the barrier pared away on one side to reduce the risk of pedestrian being tripped up by the foot extended out into the pedestrian walkway. This pared-away section of foot was painted yellow for maximum visibility to further reduce the trip hazard. In order to prevent loss of barrier stability due to the reduce foot length on one side, the Clearpath foot was bulked up on the other side for extra ballast, and wind tunnel testing demonstrated that even greater wind loading resistance was being achieved with the Avalon Clearpath barrier than with the standard Avalon barrier.

The Avalon Clearpath barrier greatly reduced the risk of tripping passing pedestrians, and brought additional barrier stability, not just from the extra ballast provided, but from eliminating the need for “angling” of the barrier feet which had become common practice by contractors in an attempt to reduce the extent of barrier foot projection onto pedestrian walkway. However, product research and site surveys revealed that the effectiveness of the Clearpath system was reduced or negated in some instances by incorrect setup of the barriers, with the Clearpath side of the foot mistakenly turned into the site instead of towards the pedestrian walkway. Additionally, the uneven weight distribution in the feet made stacking of the barriers after use trickier than barriers with balanced feet. Armed with this feedback, Oxford Plastics Research and Development department set out to redesign the Clear-Path feet.

Now available from Oxford Plastics and in-stock at Ernco-Traffic, is the new Avalon Barrier with Clearpath-Extra feet. This new foot design is Clearpath on both sides with the ballast provided by the enhanced central spigot. The new design, available exclusively from Oxford Plastics through Ernco-Traffic eliminates the risk of incorrect setup and the new balanced foot it easier to stack the barriers after use.

New Quick-Fit Frames from Ernco-Traffic

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic management is of critical importance when completing road works or civil engineering projects on or alongside the public road. Effective traffic management not only protects members of the public, but also construction workers and delivery personnel by providing them with a safe working area.

Road works signage is an important element of any traffic management plan. The purpose of road works signage is to:

  • Provide warning of the works ahead.
  • Provide information about the nature of the works or hazard which will be faced by the road user.
  • Provide direction through or past the works.
  • Provide confirmation that you have exited the works area.

We at Ernco-Traffic (part of Ernco-Group) provide a wide range of road works signs and frames for use for works both in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Signs can be mounted onto road cones, or be supplied on plastic or steel frames.

Quick-Fit frames are increasing in popularity as they offer a light-weight sign frame solution which allows contractors to interchange the sign plates and supplementary plates for specific job and during the carrying out of the works. For example, where temporary traffic signals are in use during the day but 2-way traffic is reinstated at the end of the shift, the traffic signal approach signs can be easily changed to road narrows or other appropriate warning message, without having to replace the sign frame. The quick-fit toggles on these frames are of sufficient depth to allow holding of 2 signs plates, e.g. Traffic Signals and Road Narrows, and the appropriate plate can be moved to the front to suit the traffic management plan in place.

We are now supplying a new and improved Quick-Fit frame which offers the following features:

  • Zinc plated box-iron construction for prevention of rust.
  • 300×300 standardised toggle centres allowing turning of Directional Arrows to Left or Right mode.
  • Lowered Supplementary Plate bar to facilitate use of Supplementary Plates on Irish road signs.
  • Suitable for NI or RoI road works signs.
  • Low level sand bag bar allows sand bags to be easily fitted past supplementary plate.
  • 600x1300mm frame takes minimal storage space in van or frame.

Extensive stocks of these frames are held at our Derrylin facility, as well as a complete range of signs, barriers, covers plates, ramps, and cones for temporary traffic management works. It’s a wrap for Fermanagh!

Fermanagh kit van

Vehicle wrapping is something we do all the time – from company cars to vans, to articulated lorries, but this recent job is something we’re particularly proud of. As a Fermanagh based company, most of the guys here are Fermanagh men, and huge Fermanagh supporters. We do a lot of work for GAA clubs across the county, and in the surrounding counties of Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan, but Fermanagh is our passion. We’ve just completed a vehicle wrap on the new Fermanagh GAA van, and we think it looks great!

The van is sponsored by Monaghan Bros, another local Fermanagh business, and we know they’re big Fermanagh fans too. Hopefully they’re fans of the job we’ve done on the van!

Branding Fermanagh

Like any business or club, the Fermanagh team want to stay in the minds of their supporters, so having a branded vehicle out and about can really help to do just that. It’s all about building awareness and familiarity with a business, team, brand, etc.

Many local businesses have vans, cars or lorries on the road every day, so it’s a golden opportunity to get your name out there. It’s like a mobile advertisement driving around the county and beyond!

By constantly having your logo or message in front of potential customers, you become more memorable, and people will be more likely to think of you when the time comes to buy. For local businesses, it can also be one of the most cost effective ways of advertising their services.

Supporting local

We’re sure the locals will be filled with pride every time they see the new Fermanagh van driving around the county, and hopefully it will help inspire them to get out and support the boys in green. It can be tough to stand by the pitch side in the cold, wet Fermanagh weather, but as supporters, it’s what we do!

If you’d like to talk about getting your company vans, cars or any other vehicle branded, just give us a call on +44(0)28 6774 1839 or email info@ernco-group.com. We’ll be happy to help!
